Miracle Makers: Giving Back to the Community

Miracle Makers is a series of 30 stories from Walmart and Sam’s Club associates to celebrate the companies’ 30th anniversary of fundraising for CMN Hospitals

Cheri Newport loves working at Walmart because the company encourages her to give back to her community.

When she started as an hourly associate 17 years ago, Cheri worked on the Pennies by the Inch campaign supporting Primary Children’s Hospital. “I didn’t know back then that my own family would someday be touched by this amazing organization on such a personal level,” Cheri says.

When her daughter was three-and-a-half years old she was referred to the doctors at Primary Children’s Hospital to try to find a diagnosis for her developmental delays. “We are so thankful for these doctors,” Cheri says. “They have been an incredible support to our family and have helped ensure our daughter has thrived despite her disabilities.”

Today, Cheri is dedicated to fundraising efforts for Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals. She recently qualified for a $5,000 grant by organizing 435 hours of service activities for her fellow associates.

“I fundraise for Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals to support children, families, and doctors whose sole purpose is to care for children,” Cheri says. “I am truly proud of the partnership between Walmart and CMN Hospitals and look forward to another 30 years of success.”
