Walmart’s Support of Children’s Hospitals in Hurricanes’ Aftermath

Many were impacted by Hurricanes Harvey, Irma and Maria including the patients and staff at Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals in Texas, Florida and Puerto Rico. But one company has stepped up major ways to help these hospitals overcome the challenges brought on by the hurricanes.

After Hurricane Harvey struck the city of Houston in August, Texas Children’s Hospital was in desperate need of a variety of supplies. Walmart was quick to jump to the hospital’s aid by making a $500,000 donation.

In Florida, funds raised by Walmart associates were used to purchase a NICU Transporter which enabled UF Health Jacksonville to take in five premature babies from surrounding  hospitals whose NICUs were closed due to Hurricane Irma’s pending landfall.

Finally, San Jorge Children’s Foundation in Puerto Rico suffered significant damage during Hurricane Maria. With the island-wide devastation, all of the Walmart locations were unable to continue fundraising for the hospital during the annual fundraising campaign. To offset this, Walmart generously donated $400,000 to the hospital directly. This has enabled the hospital to continue its recovery efforts.
