Miracle Makers: Taking to the Airwaves
Miracle Makers is a series of 30 stories from Walmart and Sam’s Club associates to celebrate the companies’ 30th anniversary of fundraising for CMN Hospitals
At the Walmart in Boardman, Ohio, you’ll find Kate Gominiak fundraising for Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals. The Accounting Office associate and employee of 19 years is happy to help in whatever capacity she can. You’ll find her dishing out rootbeer floats, handing out hot dogs, managing the water table, or answering phones for three straight days at the annual Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals radiothon.
The radiothon is Kate’s favorite event. Not only is it a fantastic fundraising tool — nearly $200,000 raised in just a few days this past year — but it’s also an emotional, intimate look at how CMN Hospitals is saving lives. “I love seeing the kids come back each year and tell their stories,” Kate says. “I sit there and cry the whole time.”
When asked why she feels so driven to fundraise, Kate says, “I have four kids. I love having Akron Children’s Hospital here in our backyard. All my kids have been to the ER there and been taken care of. It just really motivates you.”
